It’s not like I’ll feel compelled to write this or that I’ll die if I don’t, and it might actually be better not to write it, but for some reason, I feel like writing this.
On that tacky social media platform—which have been bought out by a trillionaire who will likely go down in history as a stain on humanity and having plummeted to the depths of depravity only to continue its descent—I’m enduring the punishment of being ignored by the vast majority of my followers simply because I refuse to engage in sycophantic behavior or curry favor with others. Meanwhile,
“I want to curry favor with the algorithm to rack up massive amounts of validation from others, and use that to flaunt to others.”
Content created with this kind of motivation—which, in reality, abuses excessive deception and fraudulent tactics—rapes my sight day after day, and, naturally, such content is rewarded with high “like” counts.
Every time that happens, my heart is shrouded in darkness, and I get angry, thinking, “If you have time to cheer this stuff on, why don’t you take a look at my posts for just a moment?” But at the end of the day, since I’m going out of my way to use this social media platform (despite having plenty of other options, and despite dealing with corrupt people who happily “like” scam content and hate speech targeting race, gender, sexuality, and faith), being ignored here (even though my follower count has ballooned to 15k!) is actually a relief and a blessing, and by realizing that being accepted by them as one of their own would be tantamount to the death of my soul, I regain my composure.
I’d like to add just one more thing.
I find it hard to believe, but just in case—if by some remote chance there are any of my followers on that social media platform who were rooting for me, only to come here and find that I’m actually thinking this way and venting it on my blog—and if anyone feels outraged by that fact.
It’s understandable if you get angry and decide to stop supporting me; you’re free to do as you please. However, you must absolutely avoid liking hate speech posts or following hate speakers—even if they’re “talented” or “skillful” artists.
